The party sponsors social, fundraising, and politically-oriented events throughout the year, which are a great way to get acquainted with the party in a setting that is right for you, as well as to raise your voice in support of our mission and goals. It’s also a good way to find friends if you are new to Pueblo.
• Fun: Come to our annual Democratic Party picnic, held in September at the Pueblo Zoo. We provide the protein and the drinks, you provide a side dish. We also hold our annual St. Patrick’s Day Dinner and Awards event each March, which features great food, a keynote speaker of renown locally, a silent auction with lots of cool stuff, and giving of awards to volunteers who have worked hard for the party over the previous year. It’s lots of fun!
• Parades, Festivals and the Fair: We are a presence at most of Pueblo’s parades and festivals, including the Colorado State Fair, either as contingents in parades, or in our booth, talking to citizens about the Democratic Party and passing out our literature.
• Fundraising: We hold four major fundraisers during each “off year” exclusively to fund the party, and we support many events during election years for our Democratic candidates. Keep your eyes on our calendar to find out what’s going on. You can usually donate whatever is comfortable for you, though some fundraisers have minimum entry costs to defray expenses. We use our fundraising dollars to enable us to cover our own expenses so we can continue to have an impact.
We conduct and support many candidate fundraisers during election years. All of those funds go to support our candidates.
• Political Action: We organize people to make phone calls for candidates, canvass neighborhoods, watch polls, update our database, and provide food for volunteers who may be weary from long hours of work during election seasons. There are many other opportunities for political action, both through the county Democrats, and through other Pueblo organizations whose values we share.
