Write a Letter

TIPS FOR WRITING A GOOD LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Change comes from taking action. One action anyone can take is to write a letter the editor to voice one’s concern or praise about issues facing our community. Effective letters are concise and their message is clear and easy to understand.

1. Keep it short (under 250 words) and to the point; otherwise the message will get lost.
2. If possible, refer to past articles or editorials in the paper. Quoting a source is a good way to back up your statement. Always make sure that someone who may not be as familiar as you are with the issue will understand your message.
3. Make sure your statements are accurate.
4. Check spelling and grammar. Having another person read it always helps.
