FAQ

What To Expect During Caucus?

You’ll check in, meet the Democrats from your precinct (neighborhood), and work through a few quick, but important steps.

First, you’ll elect two Precinct Organizers (POs). Anyone, including you, can run for this; no legwork required beforehand. These are your neighborhood representatives in the Party for the next two years. They serve on the County Central Committee and vote on things like endorsements, priorities, and party direction; and they make sure you always know what’s going on and have a way to give input.

Then you’ll take a simple straw poll for Governor. It’s informal, just a pulse check, but important for you to know where people stand before the next step.

Next, your precinct will elect its Delegates to the County Assembly. Each precinct has a specific number based on how many Democrats voted in 2024. If you feel your precinct deserves more representation, showing up at Caucus and carrying forward to vote in November is exactly how that number grows for the next cycle.

What is Caucus?

Caucus is a a local meeting of Democrats in your neighborhood or voting precinct.

Meet others in their community
Elect precinct organizers and local party leaders
Elect delegates to represent the precinct at the county assembly
Begin shaping the priorities and direction of the Democratic Party

Caucuses are open to registered Democrats who live in the precinct. Pre-registered 16- and 17-year-olds may also participate.

What To Expect During Assembly?

At the County Assembly, the delegates elected at caucus come together to make the key decisions for the 2026 Democratic ballot. After check-in, you’ll receive your credentials and the Credentials Committee will report the official delegate list and the countywide Governor straw-poll totals from caucus nights.

From there, delegates take an official preference poll for Federal Senator. This preference result will determine how many delegates each candidate receives to the State Assembly. This year, the State Assembly is right here at home in Pueblo on March 28th! The process will be similar to the one you experienced at Caucus, but this time there are a few extra rules since it’s a much larger audience.

Throughout the day, you’ll be divided into Districts, based on where you live. Each District represents a particular political office; State House, State Senate, County Commissioner, etc. In each District break-out, you will designate which Democratic candidate for that office qualifies for the primary ballot. Aka, this is where you vote on people to be the Democratic Candidate.

In short, Assembly is where your precinct’s voice becomes part of the countywide decisions; who makes the ballot, which ideas move forward, and how Pueblo County shows up in the statewide process.

Delegates Versus Candidates

Delegates are your neighbors, regular folks, not political candidates. Delegates carry your community’s voice forward to the Assembly where they vote on candidates and help decide which platform items make it through. It’s a meaningful role, and we absolutely encourage you to put your name in if you’re willing to be that voice.

Candidates are the people actually running for public office.

Voters elect delegates at caucus, and delegates decide which candidates move forward to the Democratic primary ballot at assembly, and help decide which platform ideas get heard.

Election Judges

Democratic Election Judges serve a vital role in ensuring elections are safe, secure and accurate.

Election Judges are needed for both the June Primary Election and the November General Election. They perform a wide variety of tasks including assisting voters, verifying information and processing ballots. All assignments are paid.

Election Judges receive paid training from the Pueblo County Election Department and gain a wealth of knowledge about elections.

Caucus

Candidates are strongly encouraged to provide flyers or other printed materials for inclusion in caucus packets.

Materials must be delivered to Pueblo Democratic Headquarters no later than Friday, February 28.

Please ensure you provide enough copies for distribution.

Assembly

Candidates may speak live during the Assembly. Designated stand-ins will also be permitted to speak on a candidate’s behalf. Please check back for updates.
